限速器通过钢丝绳与安装在轿厢两侧的安全钳拉杆相连。为了保证限速器的速度反应准确,在井道底坑设有限速器涨紧装置。电梯运行时,钢丝绳将电梯的垂直运动转化为限速器的旋转运动。当限速器的旋转速度超过极限值时,限速器就先使超速开关动作切断电梯控制回路电源,使电磁制动器失电制动。如果制动失灵,此时如果电梯下行,限速器将卡住钢丝绳,迫使安全钳动作,将电梯强制停在导轨上。为了防止出现曳引机继续旋转,专门设置了安全钳开关,安全钳动作时,其开关动作并切断控制回路
